Meet A Consultant
Caliper prides itself on being in the unique position of offering clients one to one time with our Consultants as part of our service. These consultants are well placed to understand the subtleties of your recruitment process as they come from similar backgrounds themselves. In each issue we will feature one of these valuable members of our team– Margie Palmer.
Summary
Margie worked for 10 years in the IT and Banking industries before studying education and psychology. Her project work for her Masters Degree in Psychology, which focussed on the design of assessment centres, lends itself well to her current career with Caliper. She has worked as a psychology lecturer and as a psychometrician in the recruitment industry and has been involved in the development of several tools including an on-line teaching programme for Level A and B, a careers guidance package and an assessment package for an IT consultancy.
Experience
Margie discovered that her ‘calling’ was psychology when she had the opportunity to study it as part of another programme. She then refocused her career and concentrated in this area completing her Psychology Degree and Masters Degree in Occupational Psychology. She has since lectured on an M Sc course in Occupational Psychology and taught a Developmental Psychology course.
She joined Caliper in early 2005 and as a part of our team, provides invaluable verbal feedback and bespoke reports for our clients. She has been involved in designing and delivering assessment centres and is experienced at training assessors for these events. She also enjoys conducting research with Caliper and returns to her academic roots when these opportunities arise.
Margie has particularly enjoyed working with a large Public and Private Sector recruitment agency. The work involved profiling the Board of the company and investigating the team dynamics; looking at synergies between the members and where they worked less well together. As a result a mentor was engaged to coach the Board members individually, and as a group, which enabled the team to work more effectively. She also finds telephone and face-to-face coaching one of the most rewarding aspects of her role.
Margie is BPS Level A and B trained and is a member of the Special Group in Coaching Psychology which is backed by the BPS.
Clients
Margie has worked with many different clients ranging from small to large companies including De Lage Landen, Takeda and Virgin Media.
Additional Information
Margie is our resident ‘Kiwi’, has three children and is a school governor. She enjoys keeping fit and travel in her spare time.
